"Northanger Abbey" is a novel by Jane Austen that follows the story of
Catherine Morland, a naive 17-year-old girl who loves reading Gothic novels.
She is invited to visit Bath with her neighbors, the Allens, where she
befriends Isabella Thorpe and meets the Tilney siblings, Henry and Eleanor.
Catherine's imagination often leads her to misinterpret events. She becomes
suspicious of General Tilney, thinking he may have murdered his wife.
Catherine's friendship with Isabella deteriorates when she realizes Isabella
is dishonest. Eventually, Catherine falls in love with Henry Tilney, and they
marry. The novel explores themes of love, marriage, and social acceptance. It
satirizes the conventions of 18th-century novels and highlights the importance
of distinguishing between fiction and reality.
